Terms and Conditions & Privacy Policy

1) Contract
By making a binding booking, the customer enters into a contract and immediately receives a booking confirmation and a payment request. This must be paid in full within 14 days. Upon full payment, the customer receives a confirmation entitling them to make use of the booked service.

2) Cancellation Terms

Up to 30 days before course start: 50%

29 days or less before course start: 100% of the course fee
— in each case, provided no suitable replacement participant can be found!

For RYA courses completed online (e.g. the SRC online course), a maximum course duration of 12 months from the date of enrolment applies. After this period, access to the online course expires.

3) Announced Minimum Number of Participants
If the minimum number of participants stated in the course announcement is not reached, the course will not take place. Fees paid by participants will then be refunded promptly.

4) Cancellation of an Event
Should the organiser have to cancel the event for any reason (illness/accident of the trainer, force majeure), fees paid by participants will be refunded. No further claims can be made.

5) Liability
The organiser and trainers accept no liability whatsoever for personal injury or property damage, losses, accidents, delays, etc., unless such events were caused by the organiser's fault.

An event may also be ended earlier than planned by the organiser for various reasons (accident, force majeure, etc.). In this case, compensation is calculated proportionally based on the ratio of actual event duration to planned event duration.

If the event is interrupted due to circumstances caused by a participant, no compensation will be given.

Compensation is capped at the total event price; no further compensation can be claimed.

No claim for damages exists if, during the event, damage occurs due to force majeure or circumstances that make continuation of the event impossible.

If equipment failure on board prevents the safe continuation of the event, a berthing period of up to 36 hours in port must be accepted in order to resolve the issue.

No claims for damages can be made as a result. Should continuation of the event subsequently prove impossible, reimbursement will be made proportional to the event duration. No further claims can be made.

6) Command of the Vessel
In the interest of the safety of training participants, the trainer retains final decision-making authority over any changes to the programme or course — regardless of the current on-board task allocation as per the training programme. No compensation claims can be derived from this.

7) Insurance
The vessels used for training are fully comprehensively insured, with no excess (exceptions: spinnaker, dinghy, outboard motor).

We recommend taking out cancellation insurance. We also recommend taking out a personal insurance package (luggage, accident, liability, health insurance).

8) Feedback and Complaints
STC welcomes feedback, but any issues should be discussed with the instructor before the end of the course. The instructor will do everything within their power to resolve any difficulties, but if no solution can be found, the matter can be raised with the director, Cornelia Schifter. All complaints will be handled within 7 days. Should a problem or complaint arise during an RYA course that cannot be resolved by either the instructor or Cornelia Schifter, the owner, it is recommended to contact the RYA: training@rya.org.uk. RYA reception at 023 8060 4100, Ensign Way, Hamble-le-Rice, Southampton SO31 4YA.

9) Final Exam for Online Courses
For RYA courses completed online (e.g. the SRC online course), the practical final exam always takes place in person, either at STC or at another RYA-recognised training centre agreed in advance. Location, date, and examiner will be communicated to the participant before the course is booked.

10) Minimum Age
STC does not offer courses for minors. Course participants must be 18 years of age or older.

11) Data Protection
STC guarantees to handle your data responsibly at all times and never to pass it on to third parties. Data is used solely for processing the booking and for your safety. STC is required by the RYA to retain exam documentation for 7 years, after which it is destroyed. Medical information is destroyed immediately after the course. Data provided by participants is used to process their booking and for their safety while taking part in a course. It is not passed on to third parties and is destroyed after the course.

To take part in an RYA online course, it is necessary to share certain personal data with the RYA via your user profile on www.ryainteractive.org. This learning platform is hosted and managed by a third-party provider called Rise Up, who uses the data solely for the purpose of delivering the course.

Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org when you register, in order to create a user account. On your first access, you will also be asked for your address and date of birth. Access to the platform lasts for one year in order to complete the online course. During this time, your data is stored by Rise Up and is accessible to both STC and the RYA for course administration purposes.

STC provides instructional support for this course for a period of 6 months.

On completion of the course, your name, email address, date of birth, address, and certification details will be transferred to the RYA's central database. This allows the RYA to record your certification, update any existing records, and verify your certificate if required. One year after your enrolment, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org.

Further details on how the RYA handles your personal data will be shown to you on your first access to www.ryainteractive.org.

We always handle your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Further details on GDPR can be found at https://www.dsb.gv.at/.
