The SRC radio course at the Skipper Training Center is your entry into the world of VHF radio.
Whether for your sailing license or to charter a ship in Croatia – here you will learn how professional radio communication works.

Using modern radio equipment and clearly structured learning modules, I will guide you step by step to the exam – personally, understandably and practically.

Everyone learns differently. That's why I offer the SRC radio course in three versions – flexible, compact, and practical.

2-day course

Friday evening + Saturday

Ideal for anyone who wants plenty of time to practice. We train together using the original radio equipment, review all radio messages, and prepare you intensively for the RYA exam.

1-day course

Saturday only + 3 hours of self-study

The compact option for fast learners. You prepare at home with learning materials, and we review everything important together in a 1-day in-person training session.

Online course

flexible + independent of time

Learn maritime radio whenever and wherever you want. With modern learning software, you work through all the content independently and complete a pre-test. After that, you simply register for the RYA exam.

In the SRC radio course you will learn everything you need for the internationally recognized maritime radio license (Short Range Certificate) – practical, understandable and with personal support.

We train in emergency and safety radio communications (Mayday, Pan Pan, Sécurité) as well as the safe handling of modern VHF radios and the DSC system (Digital Selective Calling).

Operation and function of the FM radio
Making emergency calls and routine radio messages
Using the correct radio channels
Digital Selective Calling (DSC) – automatic emergency and selective calling
Phonetic alphabet, prowords and radio discipline
Preparation for the theoretical & practical RYA exam

All exercises are based on real radio situations, so that you can act calmly, safely and confidently in an emergency.
The courses take place in small groups so that everyone has enough practice time on the radio.

You will receive your course materials by post approximately 1-2 weeks before the course starts.
Included is the official RYA manual (in English) and a PDF handout.

The 1-day course includes a short self-study period of approximately 3 hours .
The in-person courses (1- and 2-day courses) also offer plenty of practical training time on the radio.

For the online course, you will work with modern learning software in English that guides you step by step through all the content – independently of time and flexibly from home.
All you need is a computer or laptop with an internet connection, speakers and a microphone.

The SRC exam is administered by an examiner from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and consists of a theoretical and a practical part on the radio.

Both parts usually take place immediately after the course.

The examination fee is approximately GBP 76 and is paid directly to the RYA before the course begins.
About a week before the course starts, you will receive an email from me with all the information and the link to online payment on the official RYA website.

After passing the exam, you will receive the internationally recognized SRC certificate, which is valid for life.

Please bring a passport photo in EU format to the exam – it is required for your official radio operator's certificate.

Our radio courses are official VHF courses of the Royal Yachting Association. Therefore, the course materials are in English.

Since the international radio language is also English, we practice all English radio messages together.

Don't worry: German will be spoken during the course andnormal school English is usually sufficient.

The online course is in English.
